Lincoln cycle route temporary closure announced

A stretch of the National Cycle Network which connects Washingborough and Lincoln, known as the Water Rail Way, will be closed for five days from Monday 29 October until the morning of Saturday 3 November.

The closure is necessary to allow Galiford Try to erect a road bridge over the cycle route as part of the construction of the Lincoln bypass. During the closure, two diversions will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists hoping to use the pathway which forms part of Route 1 of the National Cycle Network.

Commenting on the closure Martyn Brunt, Sustrans Land Manager, Midlands & East said:

“Due to the constrained nature of the site (which is hemmed between two water courses), there are very few access points, so the closed section is quite long. There will be signed diversions in place, for pedestrians, this involves using the opposite bank of the River Witham, however for cyclists it involves a detour onto local roads, so Sustrans wants people on bicycles to be aware as they may wish to plan ahead for their journey.”

For further information on the diversion look at the route page on our online map Updates will also be posted to our East Midlands Facebook page and Twitter accounts
