We will be one of the special guests at the Cycle City Active City conference, taking place in Manchester on 28 and 29 June.
Five delegates from across Sustrans will be presenting, chairing and leading workshops on both days at the conference. They will be highlighting our work and projects including: gender in cycling research, walking and cycling network planning, and running an active travel hub.
Sustrans delegates Tim Burns, Senior Policy & Partnership AdvisorThe “Cycling: reducing the gender gap - Are we nearly there yet?“ presentation will review the findings of new research based on data from the Bike Life project (a survey of 7,770 people in seven cities) alongside research with women in the city of Glasgow (telephone interviews and focus groups with 40 women).
The findings add to the evidence base around why women cycle less than men in cities. Whilst women want to cycle more specific barriers get in the way. We make a number of recommendations to make cycling more inclusive for women in cities.
