We have developed a Woodland Plan for the Liverpool Loop Line to help make the route better for path users and wildlife.
The former railway line that runs from Halewood to Aintree is traffic-free and attracts thousands of people each year. With a mix of grasslands, wildflowers, mature and younger native trees (such as oak, ash, willow, birch and beech) the path is a haven for wildlife like birds and bats.
We manage the route popular 13-mile and want to know what you think of the proposed plan.
The Woodland Plan for the route includes; ideas to create more wildflower meadows, planting hedgerows, and opening up the tree canopy to allow existing native trees to flourish and to attract diverse species such as bumblebees and fungi.
Our local team also want to remove invasive non-native species, particularly Japanese Knotweed, and look at ways to open up the path to let in more light and create wider views.
Mary Seaton our Land Manager for the Liverpool Loopline said:
“We have listened to feedback from our survey to find out what people wanted on the Loop. Many people mentioned light, wildlife, safety and litter.
“We have lots of ideas to help make the Loopline more accessible for more people, attract more wildlife and wildflowers and create more open views. Some areas of the Loop are quite dark and unwelcoming and we want to find ways to change that and also create different sightlines and habitats through hedgerows and an orchard.
